NOVEMBER 2008 - NEWS

I carried around the idea of forming a new acoustic band for quite a while – and finally it’s here: together with Gernot Feldner (acoustic guitar, piano), Martin Mixan (upright bass) and Marc Bruckner (drums) I (acoustic guitar vocals) formed MY FELLOW MARINERS and there already the first dates scheduled:

Nov26th 2008, Café Concerto Vienna
Dec12th 2008, Headquarters Vienna (with Boxer John)

We’ll start recording quite soon, in the last week of November we’ll have a session in Seemann Mastersound and two weeks later we’ll be in a different recording environment recording four tracks. As soon as things are done, you’ll find ‘em both here.

BODHII BLVD

By no means that affects Bodhii Blvd. It’s a little bit more quiet now with the band, but that does not mean we won’t be back. Actually, we’re back quite soon:

Hello everybody,

sorry for a major lack of updates recently. after we had released the album and played a couple of shows, everyone from the band went into doing their own thing for a while, after an intense year it was time to have some break.

so what was summer all about: I was in the studio for some weeks with friends of mine, and recorded a bunch of tracks ,lus I played a couple of solo-acoustic shows. But mostly, I was doing nothing, just taking a break and think about the next steps, et cetera et cetera…
in September then, I started to write again, I experimented with a bunch of alternate tunings and had fun playing for myself…

very soon I’ll start rehearsing with a different line-up, an all acoustic one which will include upright bass player Martin “Tino” Mixan, with whom I have already played a few gigs the last couple of years. it will be a bit different from the Bodhii Blvd sound, it will be more like my solo-stuff, very reduced and, as already mentioned, mostly acoustic instruments.

there will be a few shows in the next months in Vienna, I will play a LEONARD COHEN tribute gig in Café Concerto on Sept.27th, which I am very looking forward too (I’ll play obviously only Cohen songs) –
and I will play a regular solo/acoustic show (but with plenty of new material) at the BADESCHIFF in Vienna on Oct. 7th… and I’m sure as soon as the new line up’s ready, we’ll be out a lot !

RELEASEPARTY DELAYED... NOT IN CLUB OST...

friends,
about two weeks ago Birgit Denk came with her camera team to concerto and made a little docu about Vienna’s singer/songwriter scene in Concerto – with good friends of mine such as Floh Kargl, Klaus from Fadin’ To Whiteout and myself – they showed a little piece of my solo/acoustic performance of St. Dean’s Parade as well as some announcement concerning the album and the releaseparty – as a subtitle stood the 6.4. Releaseparty in Club OST – what we/I did not know back then is that we need a while more until May – you’ve heard about the Release date, 9th of May…
so please, erase the April date from your calendars, I will soon announce a new date, we’re just checking out the locations…

Sorry for the mistake – in a couple of days the album’s there and it won’t take long and we’re roaring! Album, again, 9th of May – Releaseparty soon announced here!

vor gut zwei wochen hat Birgit Denk für den Fernsehsender Okto eine Reportage über die Wiener
Singer/songwriter Szene im Concerto gedreht – mit guten Freunden von mir wie Floh Kargl, Klaus Hinteregger von Fadin’ To Whiteout etc pp – und eben auch mit mir; gezeigt wurde ein Auschnitt aus einer Solo/Akustik Version von “St. Dean’s Parade” bzw Ansagen bezüglich dem Album und der Releaseparty – eingeblendet war die Releaseparty mit dem Datum 6.4. im Club Ost Wien –

was wir damals noch nicht wussten, ist, dass wir bis Mai brauchen werden – ihr kennt ja das Releasedatum, 9. Mai… also bitte den April Termin aus dem Kalendar streichen, ich werd bald den neuen Termin im Mai bekannt geben, wir sind gerade am Locations checken!

Entschuldigt den Irrtum – das Album is bald frisch gepresst am Tisch, dauert nicht mehr lange, wir sind gleich fertig :) – 9. Mai Album, Releaseparty sehr bald hier bekanntgegeben!

SUPPORT SHOW FOR THE INCONTINENTALS FEAT. LISA FISCHER & BLONDIE CHAPLIN

We have the honour to open a night for The Incontinentals feat. Lisa Fischer & Blondie Chaplin in Zagreb on the 30th of April in the Boogaloo Club. This band is really the creme de la creme musical wise, and I am more than thrilled. Lisa Fisher, for those of you who are not familiar with the name, is a Grammy-winning R&B singer who is also background singer for this band called The Rolling Stones. Blondie Chaplin is known, for instance, as a former member of The Beach Boys and also plays occasionally with the Rolling Stones as a guitarist and backing vocalist. Also part of the band is bass-player Angus “Bangus” Thomas, who played with Miles Davis and inspired Darryl Jones (again, The Rolling Stones) to play bass. I do not need to say how great it is for us to support this band. I got to know Angus via Chris (our manager) at a Rod Stewart show last year and had the pleasure to have some drinks with him and he had some brilliant stories to tell. To sum it up: we all are very much looking forward to that!
