FROM THE GIG DIARY: THE MAY GIGS

straight out of the gig diary, never posted them here: the gigs in the week of the albumrelease

Mai 6th 2008: Café Prost Graz (solo)

Chris & me hit the road with some really heavy music pumping out of the radio and a bunch of hours later we were in Graz, where my good friend Alex Kabasser (www.alexkabasser.com) already waited for us.
Alex and his lady were gracious enough to let us bums crash on their couches, actually they were even more gracious and each one had an actual bed. :) About two hours before the gig, we had huge amounts of Wiener Schnitzels, Onion Rings, Cordon Bleus and whatnot. Honestly, I thought I wouldn’t be able to play the gig… in the end I could, and Alex joined me on some songs. It was a small but very nice crowd and after playing some songs, everyone got drunk and had a good time. Thanks a lot to Alex & Gerhild for being nice to us!

Mai 7th: Café Carina Vienna (solo)

Fun concert, together with my good friend Klaus from Fadin’ To Whiteout. Singing, playing, drinking. Nice audience.

And about the gig in KLAGENFURT two weeks later:

I really don’t want to be a little bitch, and I rarely post something negative BUT: under those circumstances given to us it was not possible to set up the show we wanted to set up. I have learnt a lesson that night.

REVIEW 16TH OF DECEMBER GIG

We had not played for quite a while, the last shows had been the summer festivals and everybody was really looking foreward to hitting the stage again – and as the tour had been re-scheduled so to say, we decided to rent ourselves a little venue and play for the sake of playing. Besides, it was the premiere of us playing together with our new man on electric bass, Georg Kostron – and playing’s good, especially when there’s a tour following in the near future. So, gear into the bus, short drive to the venue and here we went.

My good friend, British singer/songwriter BOXER JOHN opened the night as our special guest and did a great job, opening with my favorite song of his, “Enlightened 13”, continuing with a superb set and funny interaction with the audience.

Then it was stagetime for us, and we got on stage, tuned and opened the night with “Shoreline Fandango” going straight into St. Dean’s Parade, welcomed the audience and went on with a new song called “Forwards And Backwards”. All in all we played three new songs that evening, all the songs from the album plus “City Lights” from my first EP. Everybody on stage had plenty of fun, the audience was super attentative.

We closed the set with “Inside Garden State” with a short bass solo by Georg followed by another great Nikola Paryla solo, which are always a blast listening to, and then came back for a three song encore, namely “Cubism To Me” (staring off solo, then joined by Nikola ending with the full-band outro), straight into “And Off They Roared Into The Night” and then closing the night with “Aurora”.

All in all we had a blast and can’t wait until 2008. Thanks to those who showed up and made party with us.

Soon
Bodhii

Hey people, Bodhii here. I am really sorry we had to postpone the concerts in Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia but there is no doubt that we will play your cities soon – we haven’t played in Serbia and Slovenia yet and are really looking foreward to come and check out your cities – Croatia we have already played a couple of times and always enjoy being there.

And yeah, there’ll be one last gig for 2007 in Vienna, details see front page. My good friend BOXER JOHN will open the night, and we’re already really really waiting to play – it’s been a while and it will be our first gig together with our great new bass-player Georg Kostron.

Anyways, we’ll be around playing live a lot in 2008 – if you are in Vienna or can make it there, please come join us at the Replugged.

See you soon, B.

FESTIVAL WEEKEND 22ND & 24TH 07, KOPRIVINICA & BUCCHAREST

What better time to hit the road and play some festivals, we (plus our technical guru and friend Philip Staufer), thought and once again got on the bus, first to Croatia, then to Romania – excited to play next to bands such as Incubus or the Cult – and on the first day – as the planned headliner ZZ Top unfortunately cancelled, the Scorpions… Buccharest was cool, though there weren’t that many people when we entered the stage at about 6 pm… We played a 40 minute set, opening with “The Falls” and closing with “Off They Roared Into The Night” (we had shelved that for a while) in front of a crowd that hadn’t heard us before, and I think things went quite well.

As some of the boys in the band are big fans of Incubus it’s needless to say it was quite cool for them to see those guys live and later on meet some of them in the hotel lobby – for me it was a great pleasure to meet Nick Oliveri again, who I got to know earlier this year in Vienna and who played right after us… so we celebrated a bit together with our mutual friend Jack Daniel’s and Nick’s band… also ran into Ian Astbury but didn’t talk more than “hello” unfortunately, this man’s friggin’ cool, wish I would’ve had a beer with him… and so a great night ended and a day with a bad hangover and 20 hours of driving in a bus began. Big thanks to our favorite two drivers!

Koprivinica though… well, at that festival things weren’t too cool… you know, we don’t exactly enjoy being treated like morons by the staff – plus a few Crisps & chocolate as catering is a bloody joke especially when you’ve been in the bus for hours and it’s got 35 degrees Celsius outside… it was the opposite to Buccharest, where everything worked great and the festival staff was brilliant to us (big thanks also everyone there too plus to Rock & More!)... Nevertheless, we love playing in Croatia, Zagreb’s been great to us last time and we hope to play there again really soon!

VIENNA STADTHALLE 26.4., OPENING FOR LIONEL RICHIE

Yesterday was intense. We had the pleasure, as I’ve already announced a while ago, to be Lionel Richie’s opening act in Vienna’s Stadthalle – and let me say it that way, we’ve played our share of venues in this city, but the Stadthalle was definitely still on our list (and without the brilliant work of our team would have been still on it for a while or two, hehe).

We enjoyed every second and we are grateful that the audience, even if they didn’t know us and maybe didn’t even know we were playing, made us feel welcome on stage all the time. I turned over two Dominique twice to tell him “how fuckin’ brilliant is this” (okay, as we, obviously, talk German with each other it was more something like “Alter, wie geil is’n das hier”).

So, for those interested in what exactly happened that night, here’s the setlist (we dropped “Cubism To Me” due to overlength. It would have been between “You Had Me All Along” and “Inside Garden State”). Now that’s some detailed information for possible future setlist-freaks, isn’t it :)
